Hello all,
I have been raiding 57/3/11 for sometime and then switched to my current spec (http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=8&tal=23000523010033015032310251532103000000000000000000000000002033030010000000000000000000) of 56/3/12 for a little more AOE power via Blizzard.  I was thinking that since hit is so easy to get now on 264 gear that I could afford to drop the 3 points in precision and move them somewhere else.  I will still be hit capped if I move the points out of Precision and moving the points in the Arcane tree isn't possible because you need them to reach the second tier of the tree.  I was thinking about placing them into some more frost talents for even more AOE damage.  I only raid now and I was wondering if anyone had any input on these two specs that I was thinking about.

1.  55/3/13  http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=8&tal=23000523010033015032310250532103000000000000000000000000002033002210000000000000000000

2.  57/3/11 Revised  http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=8&tal=23002523010033015032310250532103000000000000000000000000002033002010000000000000000000

Any input would be appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your time.
Regards,
Koios

Note that Arcane, while awesome, cannot match the power of chain-Living Bombs, if the targets don't die in the time it takes the LBs to explode.  Honestly, from what I can see, no ,minor change in your spec will allow for the increased AoE in any meaningful way.

Not quite sure why you aren't taking Student of the Mind.  Range is nice but SotM is a flat SP increase even when we don't have much Spirit on our T10.  Splash damage is pretty much irrelevant for casters anyways now; so once in range and as long as you are careful about where you move to avoid what you have to. A flat SP bonus is just far better considering that applies to every spell you cast even while moving, while current content allows you to move towards the boss just as easily as away.

I understand taking ranged talents over trivial talents, but taking a ranged talent over a flat out SP increase really doesn't make sense considering how situational they are.

I like the idea of spec'ing into Slow. for saurafang but the spirit talent is a must. you gain SP and Crit from it. the only fight ive ever run into is bloodprince for kinetic bombs.

Thank you for the response Sage. I was specced fire but switched it out to mess with a frost spec. I haven't played fire too much so I wasn't used to it and my DPS suffered.  I guess I will have to suck it up and practice some more.  Thank you for the response.

I opted to not take SotM because it only equals out to a 1.766% increase in crit at my current stat.  I opted for the range because I was not familiar with the ICC fights and I thought the distance would be best, especially when keeping spacing between raiders.  I have seen numerous posts on the subject and although I know SP increase is king, I believe that the range is the best talent for me at the moment.  My thoughts were to dump Precision to pick up some more AoE damage but apparently I will only be picking up a 4% increase.  Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

I mean, really, if you need more AoE power in your raid, have your RL talk to your DKs, warriors, and shadow priests.  Not that mages are bad at AoE(far from it), it's just the 3 classes listed can AoE harder, for longer then you can.  Finally, I can't think of any particular fight where zomg aoe deeps is necessary.  Spec Arcane or Fire, based on your preference, and do your best.
