Subcreation Mage Community:

It has occurred to me that this board is starting to rise in popularity.  This brings with it new ideas as well as new ways of thinking about age old problems.  This opens up the wonderful opportunity for discussion and debate where we can all learn something, we can all gain information that makes us better players, enabling us to have more fun playing this game.

Sarcasm certainly has a place in discussion, as well as humor, exaggeration and other quips that people often use.  There is, however, a line where things become less constructive and more a waste of time to read.  One of the glorious things about this space has been that there is so much useful information to be found, and many people who are willing to help another player out.

There hasn't been any written guidelines because there hasn't been a reason for them - the people that found their way here generally understood.

In order to keep that feeling, I'm starting a post where guidelines can be written down for all to see so that the community can continue to grow in a positive direction, and posts can be constructive and concise.

I want all moderators to add to these guidelines as they see fit (just edit the following post, keeping a single list going).  If you have issue with one of them, please make comments below.  For now this post will be open for moderators only as these are the people entrusted to guarding the community.

The Guidelines - in no certain order.

1.   We love new information.  Remember to include a source.
2.   When making claims about DPS relationships or other numerical data, it helps to have some numbers down already that support a claim - empirical data is glorious.
3.   Everyone has an opinion.  Feel free to share yours however refrain from making extravagant claims about another person.
4.   Bashing another class/person/company/etc. is not constructive.  "QQ Nub nub, L2Play", "Blizz hates XX class", "omfg ur build sux0rz" doesn't help anyone do anything.
5.   Posts full of ASCII text are seemingly full of win.  However they too fail to be constructive, but they do push possibly useful follow-ups further down the page.  Be kind - don't pollute.
6.   Post bumping is not necessary here.  We see your post.  Sometimes we just don't have much to say.
7.   If you see a post that you think should be stickied, you can say so in the thread, or click the "report" button and say "sticky!"
8.   Be helpful.  People come with questions, lets do our best to provide accurate answers.
9.      Think before you post.  Are you about to say the same thing as someone else?  Perhaps you're about to start a thread that's the same as another one going? As my friend Daniel would say, that's "a No-no"

Well put, all I would add is to read and following the Standards of Intelligent Discussion:
http://forums.subcreation.net/viewtopic.php?t=1577

Quote

Standards of intelligent discussion:
- Being intelligent
- Actually discussing something (as opposed to pointless +1'ing)
- Being polite
- Spelling words correctly and in English
- Using correct English grammar
- Not asking questions that are answered in other threads (hint: use Search)
- Asking questions you could Google or thottbot
- Not being a spammer
- No personal attacks
- No flame wars
- Back up any claims with data
- Be respectful

Also, content or links should all be Safe For Work. Please refrain from posting any NSFW materials.

Please remember to abide by these standards in all Subcreation forums. Any posts not abiding by these standards may be deleted without notice and continued violation of standards may result in temporary or permanent banning.
